Senior female footy training camp

What a day in Lorne on Sunday for the first Female Football Pre-season camp – hurricanes, thunder, torrential rain, lightning and then glorious sunshine!  Not a single complaint from the 24 girls who came along, they were absolute troopers – they are truly a fun and fabulous group of young women.

The girls started the day with a training run from surf club to pier and back (in the rain) lead by our star Renee Garing, followed by dynamic stretching and footy drills on the foreshore. Fruit supplied by Ray Irwin for morning tea followed by a session inside the Lorne SLSC on field positions, rules of the game, basic footy structures by Buck and Tahley.  We spoke at length about club culture, expectations in terms of volunteering, personal insurances, mouthguards, events at the club and plan for the season ahead.  After lunch it was a longer footy session using the stunning Lorne Footy Club oval and doing full ground match simulations.  Buck was supported by Renee again, along with Damian Mc Mahon who came down to volunteer his time to the team.

Big thanks to Peter Murrihy for allowing us access to Lorne Surf Lifesaving Club facilites, Renee Garing (simply not enough words for this dynamo!), Buck for his appropriate and measured approach to this group of young women, Damo for giving up a Sunday arvo to assist, Ray Irwin for fruit/veg for the team, Meg Blood for her time strapping ankles, Amy & Paige (both partners of senior players) for helping chop fruit and carry water and the girls for showing such resilience in extreme weather and being so kind to each other.  We’re super excited about the season ahead.
