News from Senior Footy

The preseason is tracking along nicely. Training has been very good so far. We have been training at Geelong College junior school of a Monday night so we can use a full ground. This has really helped in trying to fast track our young squad with the way we are hoping to play this season. The other nights have been back at ST. Marys. The running component has been taken by Cal Wade and Kyle Devlin who both done a great job. Attendance has been terrific. Training has been broken up into small groups with Kane Purcell focusing on the mids, Tom Gillies looking after the backs, Grant Creely and Bryce have been focusing on the forwards. When Ben Dobson is available (training with Essendon VFL) he will also be helping the forwards.

We had a training run at Essendon on the 17th of Feb. this ended up being a scratch match. Our young boys performed quite well in windy conditions. We had a practice game against Anglesea last Sunday. This game consisted mainly of the younger guys. It was played in great spirits and it enabled the coaches to have a good look at the younger boys. Then on the 10th of March we are playing a game at Nth Shore against Drysdale. This will most likely consist of 6 quarters. On the 15th of March we are training with the Geelong VFL side at KP. Our first real hit out will be the following weekend against Sandhurst. Hopefully at home if we are allowed on the ground. All 3 sides will be playing. Easter we have off and then all 3 sides will play Aberfeldie at Home on April 2nd. This has really became a tradition over the last 10 yrs.

Our recruiting has been very good over the preseason. New players are Sam and Ben Dobson both from Koroit, Richie Kangas from the Geelong Ammos, Ryley Hall from Grovedale, Jordan Duncan from Sth Barwon and Zac Hopper from Lavington in the Ovens and Murray league. We are also very excited to have several of our younger players back from the falcons and also coming up from our successful colts team.

Both the seniors and reserves sides are going to be a very young and developing teams which we are all extremely excited about.

The Colts have started training under the coaching of Marty Christensen and Andrew Fraser. They have had very good numbers on the track and again we are looking at having 2 sides. Hopefully one in Div 1 and the other in Div 3. We are fortunate to have plenty of boys still currently trying out for the falcons and they all seem to be doing very well. With boys coming and going from both the falcons and the private schools it does mean we need to call on plenty of players and at this stage numbers ar looking pretty good. We are also always looking for plenty of parent helpers to help with training and game days. So please don’t hesitate to let us know if you can help in any way.
