Anthony Costa celebrated at St Mary’s Oval
The legacy of St Mary’s icon Anthony ‘Tony’ Costa will continue to live on as the Club’s ground inside the Kardinia Park Precinct is named in his honour.
From Saturday April 22nd 2017 the St Mary’s Sporting Club oval is officially known as Anthony Costa Oval. Prior to his passing in February, Anthony had been the club’s No. 1 ticket holder and has been a long time life member of the club.
Anthony’s influence at St Mary’s started along time ago, playing more than 100 games and winning multiple premierships at junior and senior level.
The long-standing coterie group the “Halo’s” which he was a key member in establishing in 1979 will continue to reap the rewards of his efforts as a great club man.
Anthony’s contributions to St Mary’s continued post playing days and has been instrumental over the years, responsible for a number of key initiatives.
The Club’s new electronic scoreboard and newly created off-field Junior Development Program have been made possible through the support of Anthony, he has also been a driver for the upcoming installation of new lights as well as upcoming major renovations to the social facilities, both of which will be seen over the next 12 months.
Good friend Jock McMahon (Quote) “Tony was one of the most generous and humble people I have had the pleasure of meeting. He would always have a smile and a joke and will be sorely missed by all involved within the club.”
