Congratulations to Jim Cail on playing his final game for St Mary’s Sporting Club after a stella 198 game career.

Earlier this year Cail was awarded the 10th place in the GFL Top 50 Players of All Time. An amazing and well deserved effort.

Career highlights: Cail was the boom recruit from central Victoria who dominated the GFL from the moment he arrived at St Mary’s in 2004. He came with high wraps, having been talked up as a potential first-round AFL draft pick in his junior days before being earmarked for a long VFL career with Bendigo. Had 27 disposals in the Saints’ 2004 flag, then claimed another medal four years later.

When GFL and Vic Country interleague teams were picked, he was an automatic inclusion. A running machine through the midfield, he worked so hard taggers recalled being physically sick trying to keep up. Former teammates speak of his elite workrate, slick skills, great hands, on-field leadership, ultimate consistency, professionalism and versatility.

As a Club we sincerely thank Jim for his contribution to both the playing group and the Club as a whole.
