Player development, safety and wellbeing

At St Mary’s, we are more than a sporting club. We are a community committed to developing people, supporting wellbeing, and creating a safe place for everyone to belong.

Player development, safety and wellbeing

At St Mary’s Sporting Club, our focus is simple: to create an environment where every player can develop, feel safe and thrive.

We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and welcoming club for all players, families, supporters and members. Through football and netball, we aim to provide accessible and affordable opportunities for participation at every level, supporting strong community connections across the Geelong region.

Our approach

Our player development and wellbeing approach brings together four key pillars:

Player development

We support players at all stages of their journey, providing quality coaching, strong pathways and opportunities to progress from junior to senior levels within the club.

Inclusive practices

We create an environment where everyone belongs. We value diversity, encourage participation at all levels, and ensure our club is welcoming, respectful and accessible for all.

Player wellbeing

We prioritise the health and wellbeing of our players, both on and off the field. We provide support, encourage connection, and promote a culture where it is safe to speak up and seek help.

Player safeguarding

We are committed to protecting children and young people. We uphold strong safeguarding standards, promote safe behaviours, and ensure our club is a place where all players feel safe, respected and supported.
