Outside the Locker Room

As part of our Club Development Program, on Monday May 6 at 7pm in the clubrooms we will be holding a session with Jake Edwards from “Outside the Locker Room”. We invite all senior players from Under 19 up and parents to join us for this very worthwhile session. There will be a BBQ at 6.30pm for those finishing training. The session will run until 8.30pm.

Jake Edwards son of former Richmond and Collingwood star Alan ” Butch” Edwards, AFL career was cut short as a result of a lack of understanding and treatment for his mental illness. His life took a dangerous path with drug addiction due to a diagnosis which he “couldn’t comprehend”.

His story illustrates the result of both good and bad decisions and the importance for every person to dedicate time towards managing our mental health and keeping on top of the stress in our life.

Today, Jake is a leading mental health advocate who uses his personal experiences to deliver a mentorship program for young people involved in sporting clubs, focusing on education and support in relation to their daily challenges.

He started a program Outside The Locker Room which is a program for players involved in sporting clubs, focusing on education and support in relation to their daily challenges. This is a one-of-a-kind program for sports people to be mentored and an opportunity for a longer term mentoring commitment to St.Marys from Jake and his team.
