Junior Female Football – May update
Our U14 and U16 girls competed in a pre-season Lightning Premiership in Portarlington, hosted by Peninsula Sharks Football Club. It was a fantastic opportunity to give our newly formed teams a hit out and for the girls to put their pre-season training into practice. Both teams had a successful day, coming away as Premiers in both age groups. The Lightning Premiership is set to be an annual event, providing a fantastic opportunity to showcase junior female football in the region.
Before the Easter break, we held our Junior Female Football Season launch. Our junior age groups and their families gathered following their team jumper presentations to meet and mingle with other age groups and hear from our junior coaches from across the program about their plans for the season ahead. The leadership teams for each competitive age group were announced, and the players all enjoyed a few Easter treats before heading off on the school holiday break.
Over the ANZAC Day long weekend, our junior female footballers kicked off Season 2025 with a green and blue bang! The first two rounds of grading have seen huge smiles from our youngest, newest and seasoned Saints alike, with the added bonus of “It’s a grand old flag” being sung from the foothills of the You Yangs to coastlines with surf and a rousing rendition on our own hallowed turf! With great numbers in our U10’s, U12’s, 14’s & U16’s, and a highly experienced coaching group, season 2025 and the future of the junior female program at St. Mary’s is strong.
All age groups will participate in a values session during training in the coming weeks. The girls will work together in their teams to discuss what they would like to achieve this season and the actions and behaviours that are important to help them to help them achieve their goals. They will set their intention with a few key words or actions to focus on throughout the season.
Plans are underway for our Saints Sisters training night, which will bring together our junior and senior female footballers for a night of games, skills, connection, and, most importantly, fun!!
Finally, our juniors playing on Mother’s Day will participate in Pink Day fundraising activities and wear pink ribbons to celebrate the special women in their lives.
