VALE – LEIGH “HECTOR” CRAWFORD
St Mary’s Sporting Club extends its deepest condolences to the Crawford family on the passing of Leigh.
Although his time at St Mary’s was brief, Leigh Crawford stands tall as one of the greatest ruckmen in the club’s history!
An outstanding mark and kick, his elite tap work made life easy for all who played alongside him.
Leigh played 56 senior games for the club between 1978 and 1980, was a dual Best & Fairest winner (1978 & 1980) and was awarded Best Player in the memorable 1979 Grand Final victory over North Shore (celebrations pictured)
He was a premiership player in 1979 and a runner-up in 1980, and his contribution was further recognised with selection as first ruck in the St Mary’s Team of the Century.
Leigh was also a familiar and much‑loved face at past players’ functions whenever he was in town.
Rest in peace, Hector.
